In two weeks, you have a big test in your physics class. You have to read chapter 10 in your textbook, listen to several lectures, and watch a couple of videos for the unit the test covers. In 8-10 sentences, discuss the following.
-How will you prepare yourself for the test (what will you study, how will you study, when will you begin studying, how often will you study before the exam, etc.)?
-To what extent might you feel nervous/anxious before, during, or after the test?
-What types of activities (speeches, presentations, tests, etc.) give you anxiety, and what (if anything) do you do to minimize your anxiety level?

If there is a test coming up, I will usually just do the minimum requirements. For this example, I would probably just attend the lectures, read the chapter, and watch the videos. After that I would probably not do much studying at all. I might if it is really important, such as a final exam. Things that get me anxious are speeches or presentations in front of the class. When I'm well prepared I usually feel less anxious. If I feel unprepared, it makes it worse therefore my presentation is not as good as it should be. I really don't have a method for calming my nerves.
--Tory Schicker
I would prepare myself by looking over assignments, notes and looking through the book for what i think would be on the test. I would probably only study a day or two before the test day and try to cram it all in. I'd feel anxious before the test just thinking that i didnt study the right things and during the test I would prolly find some questions that i know that I looked at but i just catn remember that answer. Some speeches give me anxiety and tests that i dont understand the best. I minimize my anxiety level with speeches but just thinking that nobody is going to remember what i said anyway so just go get it done with and with tests i just try to study for the test.

When preparing for a big test, I start paying a little attention in the week leading up to the test to try to retain some information. Then on the day of the test i will look over some stuff during classes and than one last big cram before the test is handed out. I don't normally feel to anxious for tests because to me they aren't that big of a deal. If you do your homework in the class and get a decent grade on the test it will even out to a passing grade so I don't mind much. To minimize anxiety I like to listen to music or just tell myself that its not that big of a deal and it isn't the end of the world.
I would probably take notes on the lecture, watch the vidoes and read part of the book. However going into a test i wouldnt feel that nervous or anxious. I jus go with the folw and do the test. Speeches and presebtations are the worse for me and just standing up infront of the class with all those eyes on me just make my clam up and forget what im supposed to be doing. I really do do anything to help my anxiety level i just do it and get it over with when i have to. Otherwise i try to put it off as long as possible. ~Cheyenne
I would study for the test by listening to the lectures and jot key points of the vidieos down. then i would look back at old test and quizes and the homework for that section. i would look at the homework and stuff the week of the test and look back at the notes i took and hoped for the best. i would fell nervous about the test even if i know the material. but i feel great after the test is over because it is deone. i get anxiety from all of the above. but when i have to do them i take a deep breath and go on with it.

When I know that there is a big test coming up, I usually try to pay more attention during the class so that I can at least catch onto some information. Also, the class before the class, I might go over any notes that I have taken. Other than cramming and trying to pick up on any information possible during class, I don't really study for tests at all. Sometimes the cramming doesn't even happen, I just wing it.
I don't feel nervous at all before most tests, unless it is something that will have a big impact on my life. I have friends that are in more serious classes than I am and I watch them get nervous before tests, and I always just tell them to relax and do their best.
I don't experience anxiety. I know that before I took my road test I was nervous, but not really any other tests. I was also very nervous for my first job interview. To get through the anxiety, I just told myself to relax, do my best, and just be myself.

Well usually I study for a test like the night before. If its a test I just look over vocab and the notes. But I would study for a little bit then take a break then go right back to it again. If its an exam then I would study 2 or 4 days in advance but I usually just go over notes. When its the day of the test or exam I usually get a little nervous towards the end of a test because I never know if ill be able to finish it in time. For exams I get nervous before and just before the end. Speeches and presentations are the worst for me to do because I dont like getting up in front of everyone. Usually to minimize my stress I have to be shaking my leg or something.
-Lauren
I would prepare myself for an exam by studying in the two weeks before. I would look over the past work sheets (thinking it would be on the test) and I take notes from that, I also would take notes from the chapter. I probably wouldn’t watch the video, I don’t learn from them really. I would jot notes down with plenty of details, yet still short. And I’d look over them in my spare time.
I normally feel nervous before and after tests. Before; because I’m not sure what to expect. I’m not sure if I have the correct information and what not. During; because I’m trying to take my time but I’m afraid I’ll run out of time.
I get nervous during speeches, presentations, sometimes tests, and interviews. When I try to calm my anxiety, I try to focus on one thing, but it makes it obvious that I’m doing it, and I try not to look anyone in the eyes, that makes everything worse. I try to think of things that make me calm without getting distracted and I try not to ramble(I do that when I’m really nervous) But mainly, the best way for me is to just take a few deep breaths and try not to worry (it doesn’t always work) It can all go downhill in a heartbeat so I just try to make it through the rough anxiety the best I can.
-Gabbi Kuhnly
I would probably read the chapter and maybe take notes on it. Then during the lectures I would take notes and pay attention. During the movie I might pay7 attention and take notes. I would start studying for the test like a week before it, but half way through the week I would probably stop. When I study for a test I usually just review the notes I took.
I get anxiety when I have to do a speech or when I have an interview. I don’t really do anything about it.
Kari
i just listen is class but i dont do a whole lot when it comes to preparing for a test. I do sometimes but mainly go on what i hear not really what i study, if i notice my grades on test are bad after a while i might start looking into some notes but im not a big fan of that.
Becky G.
For the big test that would be coming up i would somewhat study. I would take class notes but they wouldnt get looked at much. I would study and listen in class but that would be when i would study for the test. I usually get nervous before and during big tests but not after them it is just a relief. Studying doesn't really do a whole lot for me because if I study it will be in my head for a couple minutes but then I will forget what I just studied because I don't want the test to come and I somewhat get nervous. The one thing that gives me anxiety is speeches. When I am in front of a whole class I feel like I can't move or say anything.
~Amanda Meyer
When I know I have a test coming up I try and think sbout all the stuff that will be on it and then in my head I will review all the stuff I know. When I go into a test I think confidently even if I don't know what the answer is. I try and stay confident in what I write down. I get a little anxiety when I am depended on by alot of people but even then I just stay confident and hope for the best.
-Evan
I would study notes, handouts, and vocab lists. I would use recitation to study because its a method that I use the most and it is effective. I would begin studying for the exam a few days ahead so that I dont think about it too much and then choke up right as the test comes. I would regularly study any time a few minutes of free time pop up. I would use a few study periods to study so I have enough time to cover what I need to. I'm usually not nervous about a test or exam, the main thing that gets me anxious is when I do study, because I fear my studying will not be good enough. A few things that make me nervous are speeches, history tests, and science tests, because they are not my strong suit in knowledge. I take deep breaths to calm down if I am nervous, or if Ihold something in my hand it calms me down also.
-Josh Derus
Studying for tests depends on what the test is on for me. If it a subject I feel stronger in I usually don't do too much studying before hand, I might do a quick cram session a class or two before but that is about all. If it is subject matter I am struggling in I usually will take some more time to study the important vocabulary, or any key concepts we've learned. I often try to rewrite my notes, it helps me refresh my memory on old subjects and if necessary I'll go back into the book for any ideas i'm still shakey about.
-Veronica
If there is a test coming up I usually just look over my notes the class before I have the test. I usually do well on tests so I guess it works pretty well for me at the moment. Things that make me nervous would be having to speak at all in front of the class. I tend to forget what I was going to say even if I was totally prepared for the presentation beofre. What I do to try and calm my nerves would be to just kind of not think about anything beforehand, and just kind of zone out.
~Ali Gilhuber
Usually when a test is comming up I will just cram at the last minnute. unless it is a class that I actually like. I know that cramming is not good for me because then during the test I have a lot of anxiety, and I dont know that many of the answers. when we get to use our notes I always do very good, but otherwise I dont do very good.
Kyle Luedtke
I would first go through my notes and highlight anything important. I might write some short important information in the margins and look them over before the test. I would read the text book and probably write down the main points. I would study the week of the test and everyday study a little less. I would probably feel very nervous before the test, but if I was well prepared, during and after the test would be no problem. Speeches give me anxiety so I try to take a deep breath before hand, and try to be as prepared as possible. The better prepared I am, the less nervous I become. -Rayah Steiner
If I had a big test coming up in two weeks, i would probably begin studying the weekend before the test. Starting it on a weekend will give me as much time as I want and need to get through most of the preparations. I would most likely do all of the things we are required to do like reading the textbook and listening to the lectures and stuff. Since I went through everything over the weekend, I could just spend a little time each weekday before the test reviewing the material. If I am well prepared for a test I dont get anxious at all. But if Im not well prepared for a test, I still dont get anxious, I just dread having to take the test. Though tests dont make me nervous, things like speeches and presentations in front the the class do give me some anxiety.
-Melanie Bardon
i would study the notes i took if i feel like it at the time. i would take notes on the lectures and the videos and i would also skim the chapter. I get nervous/anxious very easily. i get nervous about tests, speeches, presentations etc. pretty much everything. i usually cram before taking tests or presenting anything.
-Kim
I'm starting to study about a week before the test. I'll look over lecture notes, and book notes. I'll make a half sheet that has formulas, or maybe some flash cards that have the formulas or terms. I'll watch the videos and try to make connections with other videos that I've seen, mainly funny ones. To be honest, I've never felt anxious before a test, not even my ACT. I don't know why, but I just always feel confident when I take a test. t\The only thing that gets me anxious is a chess match, because I know my opponent is good, and there's just so much you have to prepare for in that game. Thenh when you're done with that game, it's one to the next one. So I try to just breathe deep, listen to music. It works pretty well.
-Cameron Gruenke
I would start by reading the chapter-only if I feel that it is absolutely needed. But i would NOT listen to the lectures; they seem super boring! I would check out the videos, but if the first couple are lame, I would stop watching them.
I would start studying about a week before, depending on my schedule. If I'm busy, I will do it when i have time. I do have to admit that I am a huge procrastinator. Most of the time I either cram the night before or the day of-so its easier to remember.
I will always be nervous about tests because there is always material of the stupid things that I didnt study for, making it a lot harder to finish....tests suck!
-Shanna
To be honest I would not worry about the test for the first week but when it comes to be the second week is when I would start reading. On Monday I would just refresh myself with reading most of the chapters in the textbook that I think that would be important. Then on Tuesday I will look over my notes for 20 to 30 minutes and see how well they are organized. If my notes need to be reorganized then I will reread the section and redo my notes. Wednesday i will not study at all. Then Thursday and Friday I will cram as much possilbe. There isn't a lot that gets my anxiety up but usually it for sports because it is much more personal then school. During golf when I need to shoot a good shot. I will try to clear my mind and think what my result should be. That always seem to work for me.
Sam Harvey
i would probably just read and watch the videos and maby go to some of the lectures but wouldnt take any real notes. and then maby look over them maby 40 mins before the test and review to reconect any frayed wires in my head.
i most likely wouldnt feel nervous before the test i usualy never have been nervous ever.
normaly speeches get me kinda nervous but once i get up there it aint so bad.
to ease the stress i would listen to some music that i like usualy hevy metal or rock it just seems to take the edge off.
-Joshua Cortinaz
when i take a test i dont realy get that anxiouse i dont really study i just look at the notes that i have and then look at some of the things i need to know so i gues i cram all of the stuff i need to know right before the test becouse most of the stuff in the test is stuff the teacher already went through in class any way so i remember most of it
-Karl
If there is a test coming up I would look through previous assignments and the notes I took from class. I would try to pay more attention in class in the week of the test. If I dont know what the test is about I usually have really bad anxiety before, during, and even after the test. Speeches and presentations of any kind give me anxiety, I try to prepare myself for them the best I can.
- Brittany Daigle
Honestly I don't study for tests and if I do anything it's just quickly going over some of the information. I usually do this the night before or the day of the test. I do this because even if i take all the time to study once I get that test infront of me I have a complete mind blank so I don't even try anymore.
My nerves usually kick in when I get my test so it usually makes me do worse than what I thought I was going to do.
Anything infront of people gives me anxiety and tests are another thing. I work myself up so much that once I get the test everything that I did know that I did need to know for that particular day would be gone. When talking infront of people my nerves kick in and I have a hard time actually talking infront of them and I try to talk quicker to get it done. Theres really nothing that i have tried to do to stop this or calming it down but I don't think there is much that I can do about it.
~Brittany
Well, the week before the test I would start to look over notes in my free time. I would look over some of our old assignments and quizzes to get a clue on whats going to be on the test. I will start studying hard like two days before the test. This will give me enough time to remember things that I don't fully know. When it comes to stress and anxiety, I don't really get anxious or nervous. I just try my best and hope that studying helped me. After the test is over, I get a little anxious to see how I did because I never know if I did good or bad.

I am a huge procrastinator so i most likely wouldn't start studying until the night before. My usual studying persists of looking over my notes that I've taken down from the lecture and then asking myself questions about the information. This process doesn't take that long, maybe about 30 minutes max. I haven't really had that bad of test scores when I use this method. But sometimes i don't study at all, which usually results in a bad grade. I usually get extremely anxious before a test because I'm really worried about what's on the test and if i know it or not. Most of the time though, I am a very calm person and not worry about too much.
I will study by reading my notes i took for the lectures and read the chapter in the text book as well. I will bring the materials home, study them for 45 min. then i bring them at school and do the same. I do that for about 5 days but i would study with a little less time each day. I will begin studying once i get informed of when the test is. Example: 1st day-45 min., 2nd day-35 min., 3rd day- 25 min., and so on. I will feel very nervous before the test starts, during it i feel fine i just zip through it with my mind focused on what i have learned, after the test i feel nervous even more than before i started the test because i ask myself what did i get? How did i do on the test? Did everyone else do better than me? Will my test drop my grade if i fail it and cause my class grade to fail me? Speeches about things i have no clue what are make me have anxiety and freak me out.To minimize that i usually tap my pencil or twith my legs or curl up my toes.
Drisana Ramos
Mr. Cleary, I definately published like 12 beefy sentences during 11th period today, but for some reason they didn't go through. ??????
--Hayden.
I will take good notes on the lecture i have, take notes on the important parts of the videos, and take very good notes on the chapter 10 book stuff. I will study everyday before the exam, a little bit right after school and some more after i have dinner. I get really nervous before a test, to the point where my being nervous is probably what makes me forget most of the things i know. After a test im not really nervous but relieved that i'm done unless if i'm pretty sure i didn't do well then i'm nervous and sort of mad at myself for not doing better. Speeches give me a lot of anxiety but it doesn't get real bad until i mess up a word in my speech because then i usually just keep on messing up. Presentations don't worry me at all, unless i'm not properly prepared. tests just worry me all the time, even if i am prepared i still let the anxiety take over me. To minimize my stress i try to think of a happy place, or deep breathe.
At first, I wouldn’t think anything of the test. It wouldn’t hit me until about 2 days before the test. I would look over the lecture notes as much as I could within the couple days before the test. The night before the test I wouldn’t study because cramming the night before just doesn’t help me; if anything, it makes me stress out more. If I don’t know most of it the night before, there is no way I would cram it all into my memory. I would feel the most nervous when the tests are handed out and I’m previewing what I have to answer. Then I would calm down because my brain is starting to think of possible answers for a lot of the questions.
Speeches give me more anxiety than presentations or group activities because in speeches, the only attention is focused on me. Presentations aren’t bad because I’m not the only one giving the presentation.
If I am nervous before a presentation, I try to imagine what my classes afterwards will be like. I also like to look forward to things happening afterwards because it makes the speech/presentation go fast and next thing I know, it’s over.
Other times, I just say screw it and go up and just give the speech/presentation because why am I making such a big deal over nothing that important. Most people are either not paying attention or they just don’t care.
--Stephanie Frank
To prepare myself for a test i usually only start studying two nights before, maximum. but i do a lot of preperation before hand. I always try to take notes and by taking notes I learn alot just by writing it down. Feeling nervous isn't much of an issue for me. I'm am a pretty relaxed guy. I guess i can't say i never get nervous, but usually my nervousness is fairly low. To keep my anxiety level low i just kind of take the test as not a big deal, but still try to do my best.
-brad Hanson
I will start studying for my test nights before. I will prepare for it before then, though. Depending on how much I understand the material, it is usually 3-4 days before the test. I do such things as organizing notes and highlighting main points of the chapter. When I begin studying, I will review my highlighted notes and then read/skim the chapter in the textbook, also. Every subject is different, though. I usually begin to get very nervous before my tests. To counteract my nerves, I usually try to study, but relax at the same time. Once the test is over my nerves dissappear for the most part. If I know I struggled, I may be dissappointed, but never nervous after. The activity that gives me the most trouble with nerves would have to be speeches. I know I can give speeches well, but that doesn't mean I am not nervous. I try to calm myself down by going over the speech material to a point where I know it without my notes. This reassurance helps calm my nerves, which is very important in giving good speeches.
